Spain and Portugal have cultures that are more distinct than other European countries. Spain and Portugal’s culture is more tied with the sea. The story in both of the countries is also more closely tied to that of other Mediterranean countries and North Africa. Not only is their history close with other Mediterranean countries but so is their culture. Spain and Portugal have cultures that are distinct from their neighbors in Europe because their geography isolates them.
Countries on the European mainland like France, Germany and many of the other countries have similar cultures and history. Similar kinds of culture that they share are their kinds of cuisine like their wide variety of cheeses. History these countries share is WWII and the defeat of the Nazis and the fall of Reich.
Spain and Portugal’s geography isolates them from the mainland because of the vast Pyrenees Mountains, the Iberian Peninsula, and even the sea and ocean isolate them from the rest of Europe. The Pyrenees Mountains act like a wall as is almost impassable. The coast of Spain and Portugal are also like a wall because it’s has steep, rocky, and jagged cliffs.
